The 3rd Lorne Sculpture Exhibition is currently on display (October 17th - November 9th 2009) along the beach front at Lorne on Victoria's Great Ocean Road. A total of 33 major sculptural works are carefully situated along the coastal path towards the jetty and 17 smaller works are displayed in shopfronts on the promenade. The artists are of local, national and international significance. Despite only being in its 3rd year, the Lorne exhibition is of an extremely high standard and demonstrates the great diversity that is current in Australian three-dimensional art practice.

Whilst Lorne cannot boast the dramatic clifftops of Sydney's Bondi and Tamarama beaches - the venue for the internationally recognised Sydney Sculpture by the Sea Exhibition - Lorne's wide bay and sprawling promenade area offers a great vista (and an easier walk) along which to consider impressive artworks such as the industrial plastic monolith of Louise Paramor, the quirky consumerist inflatable of Christopher Langton and the hauntingly sensitive raft of Roman Liebach.

The spread of talent in so few works is impressive and the excellent curation by Claire Mitchell harmoniously situates works by emerging artists such as Marcin Wojcik and Liz Walker comfortably alongside works by regionally recognised artists such as Brigit Heller and Jonathon Leahey which are juxtaposed to pieces by significant major sculptural practioners such as New Zealander Phil Price, Jock Clutterbuck, Lisa Roet and Geoffrey Ricardo.
The standard of work displayed in this exhbition can ensure that Victorians have their heads held high alongside their Sydney Sculpture by the Sea counterparts.
